Job Needs and Characteristics

As a Middleware Systems Engineer, you will be part of our dynamic team and play a visible role in supporting and implementing cutting-edge technology with other industry leaders. This role will provide expert support for the transaction and messaging infrastructure. 

 

You will be responsible for configuration, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, deployment, and continuous operational support and improvement of middleware technologies. Those technologies will include but are not limited to Kafka, RabbitMQ, and ELK (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), vSphere, Docker Application Servers, Web Servers (Apache, Nginx, IIS).  You must be able to collaborate with others to manage and rationalize incoming requirements in order to implement appropriate solutions.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related degree

  • 5-7 years of experience in Information Technology, 5+ years of relevant Middleware experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in cloud computing (infrastructure, storage, platforms, and data) with a proven track record of implementation in large-scale environments.

  • Work on large-scale, complex, cross-functional projects

  • Experience producing multi-tier, high-availability infrastructure architectures in a cloud environment

  • Experience in supporting distributed infrastructure involving network, load balancers, Middleware, storage, databases, etc. with the ability to drill down issues quickly

  • Experience with Web servers (Apache, HTTP Server, IIS)

  • Excellent scripting skills in Shell, Perl, Python, etc.

  • Intermediate level of knowledge on Windows/UNIX/Linux OS 

  • Expertise with Docker containers and orchestration platforms, including Kubernetes and Swarm

  • Experience with a ticketing tool (ServiceNow, Jira, etc.)

  • Should have ITIL standards exposure with respect to Change, Incident, and Problem management

  • Should be enthusiastic with the desire to learn new technologies and accept challenges

  • Knowledge of IAM technologies (OpenAM) is a plus

  • Outstanding critical thinking abilities and interpersonal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice and consultation in the above-mentioned products

  • Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools while ensuring the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability

  • Work with technologies in virtualization, cloud computing, and configuration automation

  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and deploy MQ in the operational environment on RHEL

  • Help with administration, configuration, deployment of messaging buses

  • Implement a multi-instance queue manager to achieve high availability

  • Oversight of critical incident and major system escalations from initiation to resolution

  • Provide Level 2 and 3 production support for Middleware components and applications

  • Work with vendors on software upgrades and problem resolution

  • Lead problem resolution and improvement efforts

  • Monitor production environments and work with various teams to resolve critical issues

  • Develop and implement security strategies to ensure a secure middleware environment

  • Maintain system availability and troubleshoot problems and disaster recovery through security best practices

Salary range is up to $120k based on skills and experience.
